| Biography
Breidt is Professor and Chair in the Department of Statistics at Colorado State University. Breidt joined the Colorado State faculty after nearly ten years in the Department of Statistics at Iowa State University. He started as an assistant professor at Iowa State in 1991, after receiving his MS (directed by Duane Boes) and PhD (directed by Richard Davis) in Statistics at Colorado State. While at Iowa State, Breidt was a member of the Survey Section, a part of the Statistical Laboratory which had as a major focus design and estimation for large-scale environmental surveys, particularly the USDA's National Resources Inventory. His research interests include time series, environmental monitoring, and survey sampling. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and winner of the 2004 Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Statistical Association (ASA) Section on Statistics and the Environment Breidt held a visiting appointment at CSU during 1999, and was an ASA/NSF Senior Research Fellow at the US Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics during 1998. He is an associate editor of Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Environmental and Ecological Statistics, and Journal of Forecasting. He is past chair of the American Statistical Association's Committee on Energy Statistics. Breidt is a member of the International Association of Survey Statisticians, and has conducted short courses (with Wayne Fuller and Kirk Wolter) at the biennial meetings of the International Statistical Institute. His current research funding comes from a variety of sources, including the National Science Foundation, the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, the US Forest Service, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. With colleagues at CSU, he has worked on space-time aquatic resources modeling, supported by an EPA STAR grant. In addition, he is collaborating with scientists at Colorado State’s Natural Resources Ecology Lab on problems of carbon sequestration in agricultural soils. |
