Colorado-Wyoming Chapter of the American Statistical Association Fall Meeting ---
Wednesday, 9 November 1994 --- 5:10 P.M. Location: Colorado State University Room E203
Engineering Building Speaker: Professor Murray Rosenblatt Department of Statistics
Colorado State University Murray Rosenblatt is a distinguished statistician, probabilist
and mathematician who has worked on many areas of stochastic models, kernel estimation,
time series analysis and applications in engineering and the physical sciences. He has
joined Colorado State University in 1994 from the University of California in San Diego.
Topic: Curve Estimates and Some Applications ABSTRACT Curve fitting is one of the central
areas of statistical theory and application. In this talk, relatively new methods of
estimation of a curve (which may be, for example, a probability density, a regression
function or a spectral density) are considered in a nonparametric setting. Illustrations
of situations in which such problems arise are discussed. Some of these involve the study
of atmospheric turbulence, ocean wave propagation or human growth. Social Function: The
