The ASA Colorado-Wyoming Chapter will hold its annual Winter Meeting in the Seminar Room of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO on Thursday March 9, 1995, at 5:30pm.,

Chapter President's Address: "Concepts of Causality in Statistics and the Law."
This year the Chapter will feature the first of the Presidential Addresses which we hope will become a feature of all future winter meetings. The 1994/95 COWY Chapter President, Richard Tweedie of Colorado State University, has considerable experience acting as an expert witness in legal cases and will discuss the different ways in which statisticians and the legal profession consider concepts of causal relationships. He will describe a framework within which a statistician may be willing to consider a causal relationship might be "acceptably established" and relate this to the way in which the law in civil cases accepts a case as proven "within the balance of probabilities," discussing a number of examples where the two concepts seem at odds and attempting to reconcile these differences.

Following the meeting we have booked a room at Healthy Habits Restaurant (Meadows Shopping Center at Baseline Road and Foothills Parkway) for members to meet for supper at 7: lSpm.
