ABSTRACT
For many practical reasons such as hurricane prediction and airplane
safety, detection and tracking of turbulence structures are important
problems to study. In this talk we present two approaches
for solving the detection problem: wavelet domain template matching
and methods based on mathematical morphology. For the tracking
side, a procedure based on Kalman filtering is being developed.
This procedure outclasses other tracking methods adopted in the
atmospheric literature in the sense that it can handle birth and
death of turbulence structures, and incorrectly detected structures.
