Statistical Perspectives of Two-Dimensional Gel Analysis

ABSTRACT

Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis is a popular method of protein separation. The talk will describe the technology involved in two-dimensional gel electrophoresis; the steps required to acquire the raw data; features of the raw data; normalization; and preprocessing techniques. There will be an overview of the statistical and computational techniques used to identify differentially expressed proteins. An ANOVA method in wavelet domain coupled with False Discovery control will be proposed for identifying differential expressions. Biological relevance of the suggested procedure will be illustrated via examples and simulations. Performance of Independent Component Analysis in this context will also be investigated.
