A computational statistician's brief history at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Ryan Elmore, National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Monday, October 18, 2010

4:00 p.m., room 223, Weber Bldg

In this talk, I will introduce the role of a computational statistician working in the Computational Sciences Center (CSC) at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).  I will present a general overview of NREL and discuss how the CSC fits into the overall mission of the lab.  This discussion will include a brief history of NREL's high performance computing (HPC) capabilities as well as how HPC fits into the lab's future.  I will illustrate (via simple examples) the use of several R tools/packages that can be used in an HPC environment.  Time permitting, I will highlight several projects that I have worked on since coming to NREL in May.
