Certificate in Applied Statistics

This certificate of completion is being retired and will no longer be available to students who have not already taken at least two courses toward the certificate. Please contact CSU Online if you are interested in the certificate of completion. Click here for information on our new Graduate Certificate in Theory and Applications of Regression Models, which will begin taking applications in Spring 2017.

The Certificate in Applied Statistics is designed for professionals or graduate students in diverse fields seeking a short-term program that emphasizes practical methods in statistics, focusing on applications and computational aspects. We have recently revised this certificate to allow students to take the most important core components of our new MAS degree. The Certificate in Applied Statistics is a graduate level certificate, requiring students to have already obtained a bachelor's degree. It includes core coursework in probability, statistical inference and regression analysis, as well as additional training in more specialized areas of application.

Note: This certificate is currently offered as a certificate of completion. We are in the process of getting this certificate authorized as a transcripted certificate. Please contact Jana Anderson for questions regarding this transition.

  2. three semesters of calculus, to include multiple integration
  3. one semester of linear algebra

The Certificate in Applied Statistics may be earned by successfully completing the following:

  1. GSLL 3095 - Math Skills for Statistical Analysis (noncredit)
  2. GSLL 3096 - Computing Skills for Statistical Analysis (noncredit) OR STAT 500 Statistical Computer Packages (1 cr.)
  3. STAA 561 - Probability with Applications (2 cr.)
  4. STAA 562 - Mathematical Statistics with Applications (2 cr.)
  5. STAA 551 - Regression Models and Applications (2 cr.)
  6. four additional credits of STAA courses

The schedule for course offerings may be found here, and semester dates may be found at our Calendar. When selecting coursework for this certificate, please consider the following:

Please note that the STAA courses are sub-term courses (8 weeks) and are awarded 1-2 credits.  An 8-week, 2-credit course will require the same amount of time per week as a 16-week, 4-credit course (approximately 12 hours per week on average).
