The field of statistics gives one the opportunity to be useful in many different ways. Not always do we have the chance to help plan the research (as we should of course). Sometimes we do which adds to the pleasure. Besides the areas mentioned already, I have had the opportunity to work with people on projects in traffic engineering, library science, dentistry, agronomy, political science, and education, resulting in publications. Many, many other colloborations also took place. Recently, for example, in my consulting practice, I have learned about how statistical thinking can help in health care delivery systems.
