Required Text: Grimmett, G. and Stirzaker, D. Probability and Random Processes, Third Edition. (We will cover the first 5 chapters.)

Optional Texts:

  • Casella and Berger: Statistical Inference, Duxbury 2/e, (This book will be used for st530.)
  • Ross, S. Introduction to probability models.
  • Mood, Graybill, Boas, Introduction to the Theory of Statistics

Course Outline: This is a course in probability. The covered topics will include probability models, random variables, distributions, expectations, limit theorems, random walks, and other fun material.

Assessment: Your grade will be based on a 2 midterm exams (50% of a grade), final exam (40% of a grade) and weekly homework sets (10% of a grade). The instructor will also assign "extra credit problems" from time to time.
