Class Time and Location: TTh 2:10 pm-4:00 pm, NES B-101
Schedule Notes: Spring Break: March 6-10. Class cancellation: No class on May 2 and 4. Extra Classes: To replace the above classes, extra sessions will be held on dates to be announced.

Course content: This course covers the theory of the general linear model, a core element of a classical graduate statistics education.

Prerequisites: Students are required to have passed ST540 and should know linear algebra and matrix theory at the advanced undergraduate level.

Statistics graduate students should already have a departmental account. Otherwise, or additionally, students should obtain a CSU student account from Academic Computing and Networking Services. Campus computers offer a wide variety of statistical and document preparation software.
Students should know or be prepared to self-teach the basics of the Unix operating system or Windows/DOS, web browsing, email, and (possibly) a document preparation program. Although this class focuses on theory, we will do some data analysis. For statistical packages, we will use SAS and S-plus. Knowledge of S-plus is assumed. A brief introduction of SAS will be given.

Homework:

Homework will be assigned regularly. Working together to discuss problems in broad, conceptual terms is encouraged, as are discussions where one person tries to educate another without giving away the answer. However, simply sharing or copying solutions is not allowed.

Exams:

There will be two midterm exams. The midterm dates will be announced at a later date.
The final exam is scheduled for 1:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, in NES B-101. The final will be cumulative.

Grades:

Course grades will be computed with the following weighting: homework 30%, each midterm 20%, final exam 30%.
Homeworks and exams will be graded as percentages of possible points.
Course grades will be assigned on a curve. The plus/minus grading option will be used.

Policies:

Homework is due at the beginning of class. No late homeworks will be accepted.
Any homework or exam grading disputes must be brought to my attention (preferably submitted in writing) within one week after the work is returned.
Exam conflicts must be resolved in advance.
All coursework that is turned in should be your own. No copying.
Any form of academic dishonesty will be given the most severe penalty possible. Cheating includes representing the ideas of anybody except yourself as your own ideas. The minimum penalty I am required to enforce by departmental policy is a zero for the assignment to all involved.
