Execution of a site selection according to the process of Generalized Random Tessellation Stratified (GRTS) sampling is laborious manually. However, two very good implementations of GRTS sampling have been written and made available on the world Wide Web. Both use layers in ArcGIS to specify the boundaries of the region to be sampled, and the variable sampling rates, if used. The RRQRR implementation was developed by David Theobald of Colorado State University's Natural Resources Ecology Laboratory (NREL), under the auspices of STARMAP. The implementation which used both ArcGIS and the R statistical package was developed under the guidance of Tony Olsen of EPS's Western Ecology Division (NHEERL) in Corvallis, OR.
