Treat Your Hard Disks Carefully by Zube (zube@stat.colostate.edu) Created: Nov 18, 2005 Updated: Nov 18, 2005 http://www.stat.colostate.edu/~zube/docs/harddisks.txt Simple story. I try to remove a Seagate hard disk from a machine and stupidly break off the power connector. The power connector is on a board that is easily removable and, I think, easily replaced. I mail Seagate whose amazing two-part reply is: 1) Seagate doesn't sell hard disk parts. 2) We have a wonderful Data Recovery Service, though. Moral: Disks should be treated more carefully than the Ming Vase you probably do not own, for if you physically break something, you are mostly SOL.
