Dearest Namco, Bite Me by Zube (zube@stat.colostate.edu) Created: Oct 15, 2005 Updated: Feb 24, 2008 http://www.stat.colostate.edu/~zube/namco.txt Dear Namco, I have spent a large part of my life playing Namco games, first in the arcades, later on consoles and still later on MAME. I played the original Katamari Damacy for a solid year and enjoyed it immensely. Almost any day can be improved by the music of Mappy or Metrocross. Tinkle Pit makes me happy every time I play it. I imported Mr. Driller Drill Land for the GameCube and it was worth every penny. In short, your name and your game history have a good pedigree. So why do you treat it like dirt? When the N64 came out, I received Namco Museum 64 as a gift. A nice thought, but the emulation (if it was emulation) was awful and you guys couldn't even get the right music to play at the right time on Galaga. It was an embarrassment, but I figured that any company can make a stupid mistake. Today I bought the Namco Museum for the PSX2 (mostly for Pac-Mania) and what do I find? Pac-man and Ms. Pac-Man give the N64 versions a run for their money; in other words, they are of the same execrable quality. My old 200mhz PC with MAME did a better job. My Atari 7800 had a more faithful version of Ms. Pac-Man. One mistake may be an outlier; two mistakes is a trend. With this in mind and with all due respect, Dearest Namco, bite me. Love and Kisses, Zube
