Congratulations to Joshua Hewitt, and Cristian Oliva! Hewitt was a winner in the 2017 American Statistical Association's Section on Statistics and the Environment Student Paper Competition. Oliva was a winner in the 2017 American Statistical Association's Section on Joint Government and Social Statistics. Josh's paper, entitled “Remote Effects Spatial Process Models for Modeling Teleconnections,” was co-authored by J. Hewitt and J. Hoeting of CSU's Department of Statistics as well as J. Done and E. Towler of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Cristian's paper, entitled "Checking Validity of Constrained Survey Estimators" was co-authored by Cristian Oliva, Mary Meyer and Jean Opsomer of our Statistics Department.
