Why I do not accept funding from the armed forces, national security, surveillance groups and organizations active in the "military-industrial complex" I’m not a pacifist or an idealist; perhaps we need to have a military, but the acts of this military should not be so blatantly immoral as has been the case with ours in the last decade or more. We have abducted, tortured, imprisoned people without charge or trial, we have murdered countless civilians with drones or “friendly fire”, there is widespread rape of own soldiers by their peers that goes largely unchecked. What is for me most horrendous is that at least hundreds, and possibly thousands of children have been killed by our drones and our mistakes, without apology or even bothering to count the dead. This is stupid and dangerous as well as immoral, because it makes growing numbers of people around the world quite reasonably hate us. I believe that if enough scientists and other citizens stand up and refuse to participate until some standards of basic decency are implemented, things might begin to change. Please join me in refusing military funding while the torture, murder, and other horrendous crimes continue to be committed and sanctioned by our government.
